Latest update of Facebook gave the ability fore everyone to chose a big "HD" photo for their profile. The size of the cover photo should, ideally, be 851 pixels wide, 315 pixels tall and less than 100 kb. You can, of course upload smaller pictures than 851 x 315 but they will automatically be stretched and the result may not satisfy you.
